Each country has its own musical history and enjoys many distinct types of music. Some of these are indigenous to a country; many have links with other places influenced by people who have travelled to and from a country and other influences to which musicians have been exposed.
Counterpoint Global Music will explore how the musics of different countries and areas has been affected by conflict- what has changed for instance in terms of instruments played, subjects addressed in song and musical forms used. It will also consider the different types of musical initiative which have been seen in conflicts in different areas.
